In January 2024, we welcomed a very special soul to Eve97 Elephant Sanctuary. Her name is Dao, which means “star” in Thai. And like a star, she lights up the forest with her quiet presence.

Her Story Before Sanctuary

Dao spent over 30 years in the logging industry. She carried heavy wood through mountains, often with little food or rest. She was not treated with love or care. When she could no longer work, she was left behind.

We found her tired, thin, and broken. But even then, there was a spark in her eyes. A tiny hope.

The Journey to a New Life

It took weeks of gentle care to earn her trust. At first, she stayed far away from people. She didn’t understand the forest was now her home, not a place of work. Our team stayed close—never pushing, only offering quiet safety.

Slowly, Dao began to walk with the herd. She found a friend in Mali, another rescued elephant. Now, they eat together, rest together, and even nap under the same tree.
